The European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA) has today published the official bid books from Manchester and West of Ireland, who are competing to host EuroPride in 2028. The bids showcase unique visions to celebrate LGBTQIA+ rights and culture across Europe, with the winning location to be decided at EPOA’s Annual General Meeting in Barcelona this October.

Patrick Orth (he/him), President and EuroPride Coordinator of EPOA which licenses EuroPride, welcomed the bids saying:

“We are very happy to see such strong bids from both Manchester and the West of Ireland. Each bid shows a clear vision and highlights the impact EuroPride 2028 can bring, not only to their local communities but to the wider European Pride movement.

Since 1992 EuroPride has been about visibility, solidarity, and progress. Both bids reflect these values and show the momentum that EuroPride can create. We look forward to hearing more during the presentations in Barcelona in October.”

Mark Fletcher (he/him), CEO of Manchester Pride said:

“Manchester has long been a beacon of inclusivity, activism, and celebration for LGBTQIA communities; playing a key role in overturning anti LGBTQIA laws, promoting inclusion within LGBTQIA spaces and boldly championing trans rights. However, the struggle continues.

At a time when LGBTQIA rights are being challenged across Europe, there are increasing attacks on LGBTQIA people, delays with essential legislation and rollback of protections here in the UK alongside a rise in hate fuelled rhetoric. Hosting EuroPride 2028 in Manchester will send a clear message: Our communities will not be silenced, erased, or pushed back into the shadows.

EuroPride 2028 in Manchester would be a bold, unapologetic display of LGBTQIA joy, creativity, and resilience, bringing together people from across the world in solidarity of the Pride movement to protest, party and celebrate. It is a crucial time for the progression of LGBTQIA rights here in the UK and we are calling on our neighbours for support. Together we are stronger.”

Lisa Daly (she/her), Co-Chair Limerick LGBTQ Pride & The Outing Winter Pride (West of Ireland) said:

“Together, we can write a new chapter in EuroPride history. Vote for the West of Ireland bid to bring EuroPride 2028 to the island of Ireland for the first time, uniting communities from Derry to Kerry to celebrate and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in Limerick and Clare and across the West. Led by Limerick Pride, The Outing Winter Pride Festival, in association with QuareClare, this bid promises a program of high-visibility events, safety, accessibility, and collaboration with local partners and Europe alike. It is a vision of pride that drives social change, supports LGBTQ+ youth, recognises our older LGBTQ+ members who have fought for our rights, strengthens our wider communities, and welcomes every visitor with Irish warmth and hospitality. Vote for West of Ireland EuroPride 2028. Pride in Our Community.”

Both candidates will be presenting their bids at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday 11 October. The result of the ballot is expected around 1630 CEST that day, after delegates from more than 100 member organisations voted to decide the EuroPride 2028 host.
